Murder Miners box art

Another recent project that I'm finally able to post- The box art to Jforce Games Murder Miners!

continue on for a little process work...

This was one of the more straightforward jobs I've taken on. The clients had a fairly clear idea of what they wanted so it was just a matter of getting it right. We started off with variations on flying jump kicks and various staging ideas (personally I kind of preferred the guys flying through the air). We settled on the composition of version D to work on.

One interesting note, as you can see in the above sketches, things were very loose at this stage, but I'd bothered to give the zombie/monster a 'crying out in pain' expression since he was being shot. The client felt that this was making the enemy too sympathetic so they told me to make him angrier, like he was 'pissed off that he was getting killed'.

In retrospect, this may be the single best bit of art direction I have ever received.

Moving on, trying out a couple poses with the same staging. Although the first one had more energy and was more exiting, part of the goal was to show off the landscape a bit, so the second one won out

And finally, some in progress shots of the final work up

All in all, a nice quick little project, and as a bonus, I'm told the game is not too bad either!

Murder Miners, that is an EPIC name. Though I say thumbs down to them for not going with the Jump Kick concept. More Epic than a Murder Miner is a Fly Kickin' Murder Miner ~
